The Fallen Eagles Memorial, to be established on the grounds of Surry Central High School, was approved by the Surry County Board of Education on December 5, 2009. Its location will be a six foot by twenty foot grassy area behind the flag poles and adjacent to the Science building. The area will contain a free-standing granite memorial with the names of SCHS alumni who have been killed in combat action while serving their country. Also, several new plants and shrubs will accent the garden.
Diagrams of the memorial and garden are below. Click on each image to view a larger, more descriptive one.
If you would like to make a donation to the Fallen Eagles Memorial Fund, information may found at the left.
Also, PLEASE POST A COMMENT...your comments and feelings are welcome.
Thank you for for your interest in the Fallen Eagles Memorial.

What a great way to remember these classmates and their sacrifices.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great design -- all of it, from the memorial itself to the landscaping, all of it. But the best part is the honor it will give to those heroes who gave all for their country and loved ones. Their families can be proud of them. This is a way to remind us all that "Freedom isn't free."
ReplyDeleteTO ANONYMOUS: The Fallen Eagles Memorial Garden is in honor of only Surry Central High School alumni who have been killed in combat while serving their country. If a SCHS alumni died as a direct result of combat wounds, please contact me immediately by telephone. I would like to know the details. Thank you, Ron Phillips
ReplyDeleteThis is so wonderful. We truly need to remember those who have gave their all for our freedom and remember the families who suffer each of their life with the lost of a Loved One. I also lost my brother Clark Walker and miss him everyday. Candy Minor
ReplyDeleteDale & I joined the Marines at the same time. He had joined throught the Winston Salem Recruiting office and I had just graduated from North Forsyth. We went to Parris Island on July 15, 1965 and went throught the 13 week boot camp together and also Infantry training at Camp Gieger ( Jacksonville ,NC). He went on to Cook school and I went to Memphis for Aviation Training after we went on leave and lost touch with each other. I heard he didn't make it back.
ReplyDeleteHe was a good guy and I know he loved the Marine Corp and his Country with all his heart!
